Heroes benefit from school’s confectionHeroes benefit from school’s confection
Pupils at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School in Lichfield have raised over £1000 for the Help for Heroes charity in a single month. Jeremy Hobbs, Help for Heroes county co-ordinator for Staffordshire received a cheque from the school and spoke to pupils about the work of the charity, explaining that all the money they raised went directly to good works to benefit soldiers. He also explained some of the facilities that the charity has provided over the past couple of years. A soldier, on leave from serving in Afghanistan had been into the school late last year to tell children what life was like on the front line.

A revolutionary book on elements of the English language has been published in Lichfield by Dr Neville Brown, a leading expert on dyslexia and his son Dr Daryl Brown, head teacher of Maple Hayes Dyslexia School which specialises in teaching children with literacy problems.

Fire fighters from Lichfield visited Maple Hayes Dyslexia School to show children just how dangerous fireworks can be. Last year, nationally there were 1,141 reported injuries caused by fireworks. 500 of those involved children and teenagers between 5 and 17 years old.

John Friel, one of the UK's top education barristers will be joined by specialist lawyers and psychologists for the one day workshop called "From School Action to the Tribunal" at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School in Lichfield on Saturday 3rd October.

Pupils from Maple Hayes Dyslexia School in Lichfield have been celebrating another year of GCSE success, with each pupil leaving the school this year achieving 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths. Head teacher Dr Daryl Brown is once again pleased with the results. He said; “All of our pupils arrive with significant reading and writing difficulties and for many of them achieving any formal qualification would have been out of the question had they remained in mainstream schooling. Overcoming literacy problems allows them to unlock their own potential and gives them the same choices for their future as everyone else. Some of this exam group will go on to further or even higher education, others will choose to enter the world of work.”
