Greyhounds to become lifesavers by giving blood

Greyhounds at Meadow Croft Kennels in Belbroughton, part of Hall Green Retired Greyhound Trust, will be donating blood this week to save the lives of other sick dogs.

The donation has been organised by the kennel’s owner, Ele Rea and volunteer Pat Chan, who have been involved in canine blood donations for nearly a year.

“Greyhounds are perfect dogs to donate as their blood is universal and can be used to help all other types of dogs.

They have such lovely temperaments and are very relaxed, which make them ideal to collect blood from. Most of our dogs have retired from racing at Hall Green Greyhound Stadium and fifteen of them will be donating on Tuesday 30th March.

Greyhounds make lovely pets and we re-home up to twenty a month. New owners always like to hear that they are active blood donors" Ele said.

It will be the kennel’s third time donating, whose greyhounds give blood every three months. The blood collected will be used to save the lives of other dogs that require blood transfusions when suffering from serious injuries.

If you are interested in re-homing one of the greyhounds please call Hall Green Retired Greyhound Trust on 0121 426 4810.
