A Children's Services 'first' for Surecare Doncaster

Parents who provide full-time care for their children often forego the rest and relaxation they need.

But help is at hand in Doncaster for full-time carers who need regular respite.

Children's Services will soon be available from expert care provider SureCare, for the first time in the town.

Whether it's an hour a day off to recharge the batteries, a whole day off to go shopping with friends or even 24-hour care, parents and other full-time carers will be supported by SureCare staff whatever their requirements.

People who choose SureCare can use the Direct Payment system where people manage their own care each month, f they meet Doncaster Social Services' criteria. They can also use SureCare privately.

It is a new initiative for SureCare in Doncaster, which has been run for the past two years by business partners Caron Oldreive and Cheryl Hawksworth.

Their staff are currently undergoing training and the scheme could be up and running by February 2008.

The emphasis will be on looking after children in their homes on a regular basis. But services could also include shopping, days out and other outdoor activities.

Caron Oldreive said: 'We knew there was a need for more children's services in the Doncaster area and we are delighted to be on board through Direct Payment.

'In children's services it is most often mums and dads who don't get a break, because a lot of the time they feel they are involved 24-7.

'A lot of parents don't know where to turn, but if they meet Social Services' criteria we can help.'
